Karaoke

I remember the days, (scarily two decades or so ago), when Karaoke machines were all the rage.  Regardless of how ageing that last remark was, I find myself quite stunned at how expensive Karaoke machines are even now.  For poops and giggles I thought I’d buy one to have some fun with at Christmas but not at those prices!  Even the ones aimed for kiddies are around the £70 mark and they can range up to hundreds of pounds.  For a Karaoke machine.  For something your sherried-up Nan will have a go at twice a year.  For something which elicits a Vic-Reeves-Pub-Singer performance from anyone within a two mile radius.

Maybe I’m just tight with money.  You know what they say; you can take the lass out of Yorkshire, but you’ll never take Yorkshire out of the lass.

Oh, how I’m addicted to Etsy, the site for all things handmade. This is a bespoke necklace I had made for a friend in the USA. Being a Bostonian, she loves her seafood (hence the lobster charm) and she is also currently on the waiting list for a heart transplant (hence the heart charm). It was lovely to be able to choose something so personal and appropriate; the way gifts ’should’ be thought of, rather that than something mass-market and soul-less. Much of my Christmas shopping this year has been derived from Etsy and that makes me feel all warm inside.

With HMRC getting so much bad press lately, it reminded me of some rather clever (and alarmingly realistic) spoof forms I’d seen on the web ages ago. As amusing as this is, it’s very easy for your glee to dissipate when faced with actually filling in the tomes of real ones when you need to. Which I do. And soon.

After many years of ‘personal’ blogging, I’ve decided to get back into the true spirit of a WEBlog and post and mutter about things I find interesting, amusing or otherwise engaging on my interweb travels.

Today is the LOLCats phenomenon.  There’s something about funny photos of animals that’s just irresitable!  Add captions in a bizarre version of ‘L33T’ speak and you’re away.  As I type, my own cat, Red, is whining to come in out of the cold and wet.  He’s meowing at me through the window.  I can imagine him saying “hai. let me in da howse wuman”.  Or words to that effect.
